Ribbon Type 01
Wax Transfer Ribbons
The cost-effective choice for general-purpose paper labels — shipping, retail and warehouse marking. Fast print speeds and reliable barcode clarity for everyday labelling where extreme durability isn’t the priority.
High-durability ribbon for synthetic labels that need to survive scratching, chemical exposure or cold-chain conditions — ideal for asset tags, chemical drums and outdoor applications.
The balanced option — built for coated and semi-synthetic labels that need moderate durability without paying resin prices. A popular middle ground for mixed-use packing lines.
Thermal transfer printing works by melting a coating of wax, resin or a wax-resin blend off a ribbon and onto a label, using heat rather than wet ink or toner. Three elements are pressed together to make this happen: a fixed print head, the ribbon, and the label material sandwiched in between.
The print head is made up of individual heating elements — available in 203, 300 or 600 dpi resolutions, with higher-resolution heads packing in more elements for finer detail. Each element switches on and off independently: heat it, and it melts the ribbon’s coating onto the label directly below; let it cool, and printing stops at that exact point. Because the image is set by heat rather than wet ink, labels come out of the printer completely dry and ready to use immediately.
One-trip ribbons, guaranteed density
Unlike a dot-matrix ribbon that fades with reuse, a thermal transfer ribbon is “one-trip” — used once, then discarded. Set up correctly, that guarantees full, even print density on every single label with no fading across a run. Hold a used ribbon up to the light afterwards and you’ll see an exact negative of everything it printed.
Why It Matters
Ribbon grade protects your print head, not just your print.
A clean, scannable barcode is about more than matching wax, resin or wax-resin to your label material — the ribbon’s backing coating matters just as much, because it’s what runs directly against the print head on every single pass.
Cheaper imported ribbon film can look fine at first while quietly wearing the print head down, and using an unapproved ribbon can void your printer manufacturer’s warranty outright. That’s why Computade only supplies ribbons approved by the major printer manufacturers, matched to your specific label material and environment — protecting your print head as much as your print quality.
